The Multipoint Blast Eye system is the latest Blast Eye device designed for use with hot-hole (reactive ground) blasting applications. It is designed to measure multiple temperatures along a single sensor cable and is designed to be economical and reusable with only the sensor cable being disposable. The system was designed and is manufactured in South Africa. The system consists of two elements:

  • Reader unit
  • Sensor cable

The Reader Unit
The reader unit is an electronic device that, when connected to a sensor cable, measures the temperature at each sensor location and displays the status in an easy-to-understand manner. The status is displayed based on thresholds that have been set internally. The readers have the following features:

  • Bright, sunlight readable LED status indicators, and audible alarms
  • The units are reusable
  • Low and high temperature alarm thresholds (can be set according to customer requirements via an internal dipswitch)
  • Replaceable AA batteries with a typical life of over 80 hours (depending on the length of the connected sensor cable). Options for 9V and rechargeable Li-Ion batteries are also available upon request.
  • Low battery alert
  • Support up to 8 sensors

  • Robust design, including a metal spike for inserting into the ground
  • Individually barcoded for asset and use tracking
  • User friendly operation

The Sensor Cables
The sensor cables consist of a connector together with a specified length of cable and a specified number of sensors along its length. As these cables are fed down the hole to be blasted, they are disposable, and as such are designed to be as economical as possible. Each cable has an additional 2m to allow the reader to be placed away from the hole as well as a tail of 0.5m on the end to allow a weight to be attached if required. These cables can be customized in any number of ways, so please contact us with your configuration requirements. The sensor cables feature the following:

  • Temperature measurement range of -55°C to 125°C
  • Sensors are over-molded for robustness and waterproofing
  • Manufactured to order: Standard sensor spacing is 5m, but can be customized according to customer requirements
  • Colour coded for easy identification
  • Customizable up to 40m and 8 sensors
